Supplemental food distribution for widows is unfortunately a regular occurrence. There are so many variables to an adequate food supply in Uganda. The Mandate often provides supplies to widows such as a pound of rice, beans, or posho; as well as fruit and fresh vegetables from the gardens grown by the farmers. Firewood, charcoal, and soap are also commonly provided supplies. We show widows love and compassion by feeding them and taking care of their needs – whether it be by food (which we are growing ourselves), raising chickens for them to eat or sell or fixing things on their homes to keep them safe and dry.
